Hi,

Just installed and wasn't sure about the honeypot path and use custom honeypot settings.

Are they entirely optional?

If so what are they intended for, if I have the PHP scrip on my server and want to use it instead of the API?

Yes. Those settings are completely optional. They are to set the path to your honeypot script and to add a custom hook for you to use in your theme. This will insert an invisible link for bots to fall into the honeypot you have setup through Project Honeypot.
